Mambo Italiano
It was a Ma and Dean-o kind of night. A little shoulder shake between each bite of manicotti, and a rum chocolate chess pie by my favorite baker Natasha. A great beginning finished off with a very Suzie Q story (that’s my Ma!). Now let me give you a little insight on my Mom—she’s got the best yard in our whole neighborhood. It’s full of ferns, purple heart, and her personal favorite the crape myrtle trees that she planted herself. She is the truest lover of nature that I know. Tonight she told me about a robin. Through the windows of our kitchen, there is a mulberry tree and from April to May it bears its vivaciously-colored berries. This robin was having a tough time picking a berry just the right size to eat. A relatable concept. As Mom tells me of the trials he goes through, berry by berry, she gleams in awe. It was like she could feel the satisfaction the robin felt when he finally picked that berry that was just right. It was a small morsel of the sweet things that nature brings, just for those who take the time to notice such gifts.
